Job summary

Fivetran is seeking a senior software engineer to join the Orchestration team, owning the control plane layer of the dbt platform — scheduler, execution harness, and results processing. You will design, deliver, and optimize features across high-throughput APIs and data models.

Responsibilities include writing and reviewing designs, driving code quality, collaborating with product and design, and leveraging AI tools to accelerate development while ensuring scalability and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software industry experience, backend services and reusable components.
• Experience with distributed systems and cloud computing concepts.
• Proven ability to write well-structured, performant, and well-tested code.
• Ability to independently lead feature-level software and design work.
• Identify design flaws and propose improvements.
• Experience with code reviews, design, troubleshooting, and testing.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, C++, or C#.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features across the Orchestration team's services (scheduler, execution harness, results processing).
• Develop, maintain, test, and optimize high-quality code and critical paths.
• Write technical designs and explain trade-offs clearly.
• Participate in code reviews and PR discussions with constructive feedback.
• Improve test coverage with unit tests and reduce tech debt.
• Troubleshoot production issues and write post-mortems with mitigations.
• Break features into tasks and contribute to sprint planning.
• Collaborate with product, QE, support, and peers for quality delivery.
• Participate in on-call rotation and uphold security best practices.
• Use AI tooling to accelerate development and SDLC artifact creation.
