Job summary

Scribd, Inc. is seeking a senior backend engineer in Austin, TX to own the Content Library and Core Infrastructure.

You’ll design, implement, and operate Rust services and Python tooling at scale, collaborating across teams to deliver reliable, low-latency systems. You’ll mentor engineers, drive performance and cost efficiency across DataFusion, Parquet, S3, and databases, and partner with ML, search, product, and data teams on roadmaps and architectural designs.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend, distributed, or data-intensive systems.
• Strong Rust and Python proficiency.
• Experience with AWS and IaC (Terraform).
• Deep understanding of storage: S3, Parquet/Arrow, PostgreSQL/MySQL.
• Proven track record designing and operating high-throughput, low-latency services.

Responsibilities

• Own features end-to-end from design to production operations.
• Lead cross-functional projects with ML, search, product and data teams.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards.
• Define roadmaps and technical designs balancing scalability and cost.
