Job summary

Chainguard is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for Container Product Engineering. You will design and ship features behind Chainguard Containers and lead small sub-teams, owning architectural decisions while remaining hands-on most of the week.

You will work on the hardened container images, the registry, and tooling to enable engineers and AI agents to adopt them, with a focus on security by default and scalable delivery.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating software used by paying customers.
• Led at least one multi-engineer project end-to-end, preferably at a startup or a company in hyper-growth.
• System-wide judgment on trade-offs, with clear rationale.

Responsibilities

• Architect and deliver major new features for Chainguard Containers.
• Make high-leverage trade-offs and document decisions.
• Work with AI coding agents and set safe usage standards.
• Collaborate across teams to plan ahead and unblock work.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and pair programming.
• Partner with Product and engineering leadership on roadmaps.
• Keep systems healthy with observability and on-call.
