Job summary

Symetra is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to serve as the technical lead for our Stop Loss platform. You will architect, design, and deliver scalable cloud-native solutions while remaining hands-on with development and ensuring reliability and quality.

You will mentor senior engineers, drive engineering standards, and lead cross-team collaboration across Product, Engineering, and Architecture. This role emphasizes both strategy and execution in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership for the design, development, and delivery of a cloud-native Stop Loss platform.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Architecture teams to translate business capabilities into scalable technical solutions.
• Drive architecture and technical decisions across applications, APIs, integrations, data flows, security, reliability, and scalability.
• Lead design discussions, evaluate tradeoffs, and guide teams toward practical, maintainable solutions.
• Develop production-quality software while mentoring engineers and improving delivery confidence.
