Symetra is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to build and scale cloud-native engineering teams for a Stop Loss platform. You will lead delivery across the full software lifecycle, partnering with Product, Architecture, and business stakeholders to turn requirements into robust software solutions.

You will drive technical excellence, mentor engineers, and manage a blended team of employees, contractors, and vendor partners in a fast-moving environment.

• Experience building and scaling software engineering teams.
• Proven track record leading distributed teams including employees, contractors, and partners.
• Strong cloud-native software development expertise.
• Ability to translate strategy into executable plans and measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and develop high-performing engineering teams for a cloud-native Stop Loss platform.
• Drive engineering execution and delivery for key platform capabilities.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Guide teams through the full software development lifecycle from design to production support.
• Influence architectural decisions and ensure alignment with technical direction.
• Create clear team structures, operating rhythms, and delivery transparency.
• Manage technical risks, dependencies, and cross-functional coordination challenges.
• Lead a blended delivery model of employees, contractors, and vendor teams.
• Oversee vendor relationships and staff planning with external partners.
