Job summary

Anthropic is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to set technical direction at the intersection of engineering and research on the Claude Code team. You will partner with researchers and engineering leadership to shape how we measure and improve Claude's coding capabilities, architecting systems, tooling, and evaluation infrastructure for scalable research.

This senior IC role requires owning critical systems end-to-end, mentoring engineers, and influencing architectural decisions across teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience at staff/principal level.
• Proven track record architecting and owning complex systems.
• Experience leading technical initiatives in demanding environments.
• Strong communication and mentorship abilities.
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for evaluation systems and internal tooling.
• Architect evaluation frameworks to measure model capabilities at scale.
• Lead design of infrastructure enabling large-scale experiments.
• Identify high-leverage engineering investments and drive to completion.
• Act as a senior technical bridge between product and research.
• Mentor engineers and model engineering standards.
• Partner with research leads to translate questions into durable solutions.
• Own critical systems end-to-end from architecture to production health.
