Job summary

Root seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Build & Deploy team, guiding strategy to improve developer productivity, deployment safety, and the reliability of our software delivery platform across the org.

You will collaborate with engineers, Platform Engineering, and leadership to push initiatives, coach teams, and drive resilient, scalable systems while maintaining strong risk management and customer focus.

Qualifications

7+ years of software engineering experience.
3+ years leading teams or major initiatives.
Experience designing or operating CI/CD and internal platforms.
Experience with cloud infrastructure, containers, and build automation.
Familiarity with Terraform and modern workflows.
Proven cross-team leadership on complex migrations.
Excellent communication with engineers and leaders.

Responsibilities

Set technical direction for build and deploy systems with cross-functional teams.
Lead high-leverage initiatives to reduce toil and improve feedback loops.
Design scalable, reliable systems for building, testing, releasing, deploying.
Contribute code in complex/high-impact areas.
Coordinate with Staff Engineers to establish standards and drive adoption.
Coach engineers and model strong technical judgment.
Lead during incidents and improve resiliency of shared systems.
