Job summary

Root Insurance is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead engineering on Root's Build & Deploy team.

As a Staff Engineer, you will be a primary technical leader for the systems and workflows engineers use to build, test, release, and operate software, partnering with software engineers and platform leadership to define the strategy and roadmap for improving developer productivity, deployment safety, and the reliability of our software delivery platform.

Qualifications

• 7+ years as a software engineer.
• 3+ years leading software teams or major technical initiatives.
• Experience designing or operating CI/CD, developer tooling, or internal platform systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and build automation.
• Familiarity with Terraform and modern application development workflows.
• Proven leadership of projects involving multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for Root's build and deploy systems.
• Lead high-leverage initiatives to reduce toil and cognitive load.
• Design and evolve scalable systems for building, testing, releasing and deploying software.
• Coordinate with Staff Engineers to establish standards and drive adoption.
• Coach and grow engineers by modeling technical judgment and collaboration.
