For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Trust and Safety) to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space.

This role will shape backend strategy for critical systems that support safety, reliability, and scalable operations across the organization. You will partner closely with product management, design, and analytics to balance technical risk, define practical solutions, and guide major initiatives from planning through execution. The position also calls for strong technical leadership in system design, operational readiness, and team development within a highly distributed environment.

Location:

Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation:

$181,000 – $241,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy for the team on a year-long scale


• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical risks


• Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes


• Ensure team operations and availability through proper monitoring and triage


• Establish and promote code review and design standards


• Provide feedback and leadership to develop team talent


• Lead projects from strategy through execution, ensuring clarity and sustainability

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in backend system design and development


• Proficient in languages such as Python or Kotlin


• Experience with highly available distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes


• Demonstrated ability to deliver major system features and components


• Comfortable navigating from low-level language idioms to large system architecture


• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with global teams


• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
