The ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience with high-traffic systems, strong system design, and proficiency in PHP/Magento, React/Next, and AWS, with a track record of delivering features at scale.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience with high-traffic, customer-facing systems and technical leadership.
  • Strong fundamentals in object-oriented design and relational database design.
  • Fluency in system-level concepts like eventing, workflow orchestration, and distributed systems.
  • Proficiency across technology stacks; PHP/Magento and React/Next experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AWS services and database tradeoffs.
  • Proven track record of delivering impactful features at scale.
  • Strong written and visual communication skills for proposals and diagrams.
  • Experience influencing cross-team alignment without formal authority.

Responsibilities

  • Set and own the technical direction for member growth systems.
  • Identify and prioritize high-leverage problems and opportunities.
  • Draft comprehensive technical proposals with clear recommendations.
  • Make system-level decisions on architecture and service introduction.
  • Design systems for horizontal scalability and low latency.
  • Decompose services into scalable components with migration plans.
  • Collaborate across teams to align on shared systems and contracts.
  • Break down complex problems into actionable plans and drive them to completion.
  • Build consensus among engineers, Product, and leadership.
  • Use data to connect engineering decisions to outcomes and defend shipped products.
  • Implement test-driven development with a focus on quality and observability.
  • Provide multiple design options with recommendations to Product and Design.
  • Define standards for design, code, and operations while mentoring others.
  • Own SLAs and maintain system health standards.
  • Leverage AI tools to enhance team productivity

Job description

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Fullstack to join the team of a leader in the Retail & Consumer Goods space.

This role will shape technical direction for customer-facing growth systems and help drive high-impact decisions across architecture, scalability, and service design. You will partner closely with Product, Design, and engineering teams to turn complex problems into practical solutions that support business outcomes. The ideal candidate brings deep fullstack experience, strong system design skills, and the ability to influence technical alignment across the organization.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $160,000 – $225,000 annually
