Job summary

The Home Depot, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead a team of engineers building and improving production applications that our customers and associates rely on.

You will drive architectural decisions, design scalable services, and mentor junior engineers while delivering high-impact software across the product line. You will work with Java-based backend systems, APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures, leveraging GCP and BigQuery for analytics and scalability.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of relevant software engineering experience, preferably within a large-scale enterprise environment.
• Strong backend development experience with Java, APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Demonstrated experience designing and building APIs from scratch, including contributing to overall application and service design.
• Experience with Kafka and/or Pub/Sub technologies to support high-volume, distributed applications.
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery.
• Experience with Elasticsearch and large-scale data storage, search, or retrieval solutions.
• Experience designing and supporting high-volume backend systems and databases, ideally processing millions of transactions or records daily.
• Experience supporting transactional or financial data platforms, such as point-of-sale, online/e-commerce, self-checkout, payment, receipt, or post-sale transaction systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers building and designing a product loved by customers and associates.
• Architectural diagrams and reusable code elements for scalable systems.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure user stories are developer-ready and testable.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and lead multiple technical initiatives.
