Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Engineer for the AV Developer Tools team. You will lead the design and operation of production-grade cloud services, mentor engineers, and drive improvements across toolchains to boost developer productivity in autonomous vehicle initiatives.

You will influence the technical roadmap, evaluate new tools, and balance rapid delivery with long-term maintainability in a fast-paced, impactful environment.

Qualifications

• Experience designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable services.
• 5+ years designing, building and operating production systems at scale in the cloud.
• Experience writing in Go, Python, or other languages at production scale.
• Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Identify engineering pain points and propose/design/implement solutions that are reliable, scalable, and maintainable.
• Influence the team's technical roadmap.
• Evaluate new tools and technologies through PoCs.
• Ship improvements to AV development toolchains and services with measurable impact on productivity.
• Drive software engineering best practices within the team and create tooling to support them.
• Help steer the engineering culture on the team.
• Guide the team to balance impact with technical debt.
• Mentor and grow engineers on the team.
• Set the example for accountability and delivery, individually or as a team.
