Sunbound is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in San Francisco to lead architecture and set engineering direction. This senior role partners with the CTO and cross-functional leaders to shape product and team strategy, owning complex, multi-team initiatives.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years of software experience, deep Node.js/TypeScript/AWS expertise, and a proven ability to drive initiatives across an organization while mentoring engineers. On-site presence is required.

Qualifications

10+ years of software engineering experience and a track record of technical leadership at scale.
Ownership of org-wide technical initiatives and architecture decisions.
Deep backend expertise with Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS in cloud-native environments.

Responsibilities

Set the technical direction for core systems and own cross-team architectural decisions.
Drive alignment on engineering standards, patterns, and best practices across the org.
Lead complex projects from problem definition to delivery, even with ambiguity.
Partner with product and business stakeholders to translate goals into a cohesive technical strategy.
Identify leverage points in stack and org to maximize impact on tooling, infra, process, and culture.
Mentor engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and collaboration.
Represent engineering in cross-functional planning with systems-level perspective.
