Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to anchor architecture across eight globally distributed squads, shaping the AI maturity and developer experience on Coinbase's AI platform while delivering scalable backend services.

You will lead platform-excellence roadmaps, define build-versus-buy strategies, ensure reliability and security, and own full SLOs and incident response in a regulated environment, collaborating with product, security, and compliance teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with distributed systems.
• Experience leading high-impact technical initiatives across multi-team spaces.
• Strong experience with cloud-native infrastructure including AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, event-driven architectures (Kafka).
• Track record building secure, compliant internal tools in regulated environments.
• Experience building or integrating agentic AI systems with Go and Python.

Responsibilities

• Own the EAA-CX AI maturity and developer-experience roadmap, surface opportunities with squads, prototype on Coinbase's AI platform, and drive adoption.
• Lead platform-excellence workstreams to improve reliability, observability and operational readiness for Tier-1 systems.
• Define build-versus-buy strategy for developer-experience and AI tooling across EAA-CX.
• Provide Staff-level architectural coverage across squads facing complex challenges, ramping in and out while maintaining portfolio coherence.
• Build highly reliable, secure distributed backend services with full SLO ownership, observability, and incident response.
