Job summary

Newmark is seeking an experienced Principal/Staff Engineer to own the technical architecture across front-end, back-end, and data layers. You will drive scalable, cloud-native web applications and integrate agentic AI workflows to enhance product capabilities.

You will lead design reviews, set coding standards, and mentor engineers while translating business strategy into roadmaps with AI-enabled features. Hybrid work model available.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with full-stack architecture
• Expert-level proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks and backend languages
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and API design (REST/GraphQL)
• Strong experience with cloud platforms and cloud-native patterns
• Hands-on experience with agentic AI systems and AI copilots tooling
• Proven track record leading large-scale technical initiatives across teams
• Strong database design skills (SQL & NoSQL)
• CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and DevOps practices
• Ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction without direct reporting authority
• Experience with multi-agent systems, tool-calling architectures, or RAG is a plus

Responsibilities

• Own and drive the technical architecture for cross-team, full-stack initiatives.
• Design and maintain scalable, cloud-native web apps and services.
• Architect and integrate agentic AI workflows into systems to boost efficiency.
• Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, and deployment, including AI tooling.
• Lead technical design reviews and provide guidance to multiple teams.
• Translate business strategy into scalable technical roadmaps, incl. AI features.
• Identify and resolve systemic performance, reliability, and scalability issues.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers to raise technical bar.
• Drive adoption of modern frameworks and AI tooling to improve velocity and resilience.
• Monitor emerging AI/automation tech and assess applicability to business.
