Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Staff Software Engineer on the Agent Productivity team to shape the foundation for building secure, scalable agents with Slack as the primary interface. You will own architecture, governance, and automation patterns across enterprise apps and identity platforms.

This hands-on role impacts multiple teams by establishing reusable foundations, SDKs, and patterns for secure context, permissions, and operation management across systems.

Qualifications

• Deep hands-on software engineering experience.
• Strong backend and distributed-systems fundamentals, including API design, integrations, and production reliability.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and architecture enabling teams to build and deploy agents using Slack as the primary surface.
• Design and build secure, reliable services that provide permission-aware access to context, tools, and actions across Slack and internal systems.
• Establish scalable patterns for connectivity, context retrieval, authorization, and action execution across diverse systems.
• Develop reusable SDKs, connectors, templates, testing tools, and deployment patterns to reduce integration effort.
• Build policy-aware automation and lifecycle management for agents, applications, and integrations.
• Implement governance and observability to enforce least privilege and protect data boundaries.
