Job summary

General Motors seeks a Staff Systems Engineer to lead system-level decisions for autonomous sensing under varied weather and contamination conditions. You will shape architectures for radar, cameras, lidar, and cleaning systems, guiding cross-functional teams from sensing to validation to production.

Responsibilities include defining performance requirements, leading trades, and ensuring safety and regulatory alignment across programs, with a hybrid work setup in Warren, MI.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Systems, Electrical, Software, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of systems engineering or hardware-intensive product development.
• Experience with sensing systems and weather/contamination effects on performance.
• Experience leading cross-domain technical initiatives for evaluation and validation of sensor performance.
• Expertise in requirements decomposition and development.
• Ability to operate in ambiguous spaces and drive alignment across teams.
• Experience with Matlab, Python, or similar data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead system-level trades, requirements decomposition, and integration requirements for autonomous sensor systems across radar, cameras, and lidar with cleaning systems.
• Lead technical assessment, characterization, and performance benchmarking of sensor systems across vehicle programs.
• Translate autonomy and product performance intent into system architectures and requirements.
• Collaborate with software platform, vehicle integration, hardware, perception, and validation teams to manage interdependencies.
• Ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, quality, and performance requirements for autonomous operation in diverse conditions.
• Document technical decisions, trade-offs, and deliverables clearly.
