Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Robotics to build the simulation infrastructure for manipulation, perception, SLAM, and navigation validation and to drive virtual commissioning and digital twin capabilities.

You will own the simulation environment, model robot platforms with accurate dynamics, implement sensor models, and integrate simulation into CI, partnering with robotics, AI, and test teams to ensure hardware validation.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering with 4+ years in robotics simulation.
• Experience validating real robot behavior against simulation and closing the gap.
• Infrastructure ownership experience for internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Build and own our simulation environment for manipulation, perception and navigation validation.
• Model robot platforms with physically accurate dynamics, kinematics, and actuation.
• Implement sensor models for RGB-D and LiDAR with realistic noise.
• Create scene and facility authoring tooling and CAD imports.
• Integrate simulation into CI so tests run on releases.
• Support AI with simulation for data generation and policy evaluation.
• Drive virtual commissioning and digital twin roadmaps.
• Quantify divergence between simulation and hardware for confidence.
