Job summary

Coinbase is hiring Staff Software Engineers in the Developer Infrastructure group to own CI/build systems and deployment orchestration across services. You will set direction for cross-team initiatives and drive reliable platforms used by thousands of engineers.

Lead large-scale migrations, improve deployment metrics, and mentor engineers, while maintaining strong collaboration with engineering leaders to shape technical strategy.

Qualifications

• 8+ years building and operating production distributed systems.
• Hands-on proficiency in Go or a comparable systems language and experience in CI/CD, build systems, or deployment tooling.
• Track record of designing and shipping high-impact backend or platform systems that many engineers rely on.
• Demonstrated technical leadership on cross-team initiatives: architectural direction, cross-team alignment, and scalable decisions.
• Deep operational expertise with production systems focusing on reliability, observability, and fast recovery.
• Ability to drive alignment on ambiguous problems and uplift the technical bar through mentorship and design reviews.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own core developer infrastructure platforms, including CI/build systems and deployment orchestration, across the full lifecycle from design through production operation.
• Identify high-leverage problems, convert ambiguous challenges into concrete roadmaps, and align dependent teams.
• Improve metrics such as build/CI wall time, deploy speed and safety, and developer feedback latency.
• Lead cross-cutting initiatives end to end, including large-scale platform migrations and cross-team rollout.
• Raise the reliability bar by owning SLOs, observability, and on-call procedures.
• Mentor engineers through design review, pairing, and shared ownership to shape technical direction.
