Job summary

Western Alliance Bank is seeking a Staff Engineer II to lead platform engineering across Azure and Fabric environments. You will drive reliability, performance, automation, and governance, collaborating with data engineers, governance teams, and stakeholders to implement cloud-first patterns.

The role emphasizes scalable data solutions, incident response, and architectural guidance while aligning with enterprise standards. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of related experience in Microsoft Azure Platform or similar cloud platform support.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science & engineering or related field.
• Expertise in Microsoft Azure & Microsoft Fabric including Fabric Lakehouse, Warehouse, Workspaces, Capacity management, ADF, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, ADLS, Key Vault, Azure Monitor.
• Experience with Platform provisioning & automation (ARM, Terraform, YAML pipelines), CI/CD using Azure DevOps, Monitoring & observability frameworks, Security & access management (RBAC, Managed Identity, Service Principals).
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or PySpark.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic planning of projects related to technical solution design.
• Design and implement reliability and recovery principles.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and runbooks.
• Build and manage enterprise data platform services across Azure and Fabric environments.
• Own platform availability, reliability, performance, monitoring, and incident response.
• Implement backup, recovery, and failover strategies for business continuity.
• Manage capacity planning, cost optimization, and workload isolation strategies.
• Implement access controls and secure connectivity (RBAC, Private Link, VNet).
• Ensure platform governance, regulatory standards, and audit requirements.
• Define platform monitoring, telemetry, and observability frameworks.
• Create architecture diagrams and operational documentation.
• Support production operations through incident triage and RCA.
