Staff Nurse - NICU - MSW - Full Time Night
Description
Responsible for the care activities and goal achievements of assigned patients by assessing, diagnosing, planning, and intervening in actual or potential health problems. Evaluates patients' responses to care, provides health teaching, and manages discharge planning. Acts as a member of a designated care team, collaborating, coordinating, and guiding team members in planning patient care activities. Demonstrates professional behaviors reflecting scientific knowledge, judgment, and teaching skills.
Responsibilities
- Conduct nursing assessments through interviews, examinations, observations, and review of records.
- Document patient progress and update care plans accordingly.
- Plan discharges in accordance with patient status, ensuring effective communication across departments and agencies.
- Communicate information to patients based on their level of awareness and readiness to learn.
- Support orientation of new staff by observing behaviors, providing feedback, and acting as preceptor and role model.
- Serve as a professional role model and mentor for students and volunteers.
- Assign patient care based on patient needs and staff skill levels.
- Organize care to meet priority needs of patients and the unit.
- Communicate patient and unit conditions requiring additional intervention to relevant leadership.
- Participate in staff development and practice appraisal.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to meet patient and unit needs.
- Provide direction, assistance, and support to team members.
- Take accountability for the completion and quality of assigned tasks.
- Identify and communicate training needs to supervisors.
- Engage with nursing leadership as appropriate, utilizing their expertise and resources.
- Align practice with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Department of Nursing and the Hospital.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited Nursing program; BSN preferred.
- RN with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) and current enrollment in a BSN program with a graduation date within the year.
- Experience in NICU required, with at least 1 year of NICU experience.
- Valid RN license (e.g., NYS RN license).
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for departments like L&D, NICU.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
