BetterHelp is hiring a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our growing Data team. You’ll design and deploy ML models and optimization solutions that power products used by millions.

You’ll collaborate with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Software Engineers, and Product Managers to productionize models and scale our ML platform. This role offers remote work across time zones with travel to collaboration sessions as needed.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in machine learning.
• Experience deploying ML models into production.
• Strong ML techniques including deep learning, neural networks, and tree-based methods.
• Experience building personalization and recommendation systems.
• Knowledge of operations research concepts (linear/integer programming, discrete event simulation).
• Familiarity with large language models and RLHF.
• CS fundamentals: OOP, data structures, algorithms.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Experience developing data pipelines and ML libraries/tools.
• Eagerness to learn new technologies.
• Interest in mentoring junior ML engineers.
• Comfortable in fast-paced, high-growth, agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype and productionize scalable ML and optimization models.
• Set up best practices for ML and guide the ML platform direction.
• Develop frameworks, pipelines, libraries, and tools for processing massive data for ML tasks.
• Partner with data scientists to troubleshoot and optimize data pipelines.
• Collaborate with product managers and business partners to gather ML requirements.
• Build model deployment platform to simplify implementing new models.
• Build end-to-end reusable pipelines from data to delivery.
• Mentor junior data scientists to deploy models into production.
• Design and build ML solutions that unlock new modeling capabilities.
