Job summary

Merlin Labs in Boston, MA is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead design and development of flight-critical autonomy algorithms. You’ll work at the cutting edge of model-based design using MATLAB/Simulink to develop, test, and certify software for safety-critical aerospace systems under DO-178C.

You will own the full development lifecycle from algorithm design through rigorous verification, partnering with systems, safety, hardware, and flight test teams to ensure requirements are met and

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience developing embedded or safety-critical software.
• Experience with DO-178C and DO-331.
• Strong experience with requirements management and traceability using DOORS, Jama, or Polarion.
• CI/CD and automated model/code quality checks.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop flight-critical software using Simulink, Stateflow, and related MathWorks tools.
• Define software architecture, modeling standards, and development workflows aligned with DO-178C and DO-331.
• Create, maintain and review software requirements, models and auto-generated code.
• Ensure robustness and traceability through requirements-based design, verification, and certification artifact production.
• Collaborate with engineers from cross functional groups such as systems, safety, hardware, flight controls, and flight test.
