Job summary

Merlin Labs, based in Boston, seeks a Staff Software Engineer to design and certify flight‑critical autonomy algorithms. You will develop model‑based flight software using MATLAB/Simulink and support DO‑178C compliant development.

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, contribute to CI pipelines, and participate in HIL/PIL testing to ensure robust, traceable software suitable for aviation safety standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience developing embedded or safety‑critical software.
• Hands‑on experience with DO-178C and DO-331.
• Experience with model‑based design using Simulink/Stateflow.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop flight‑critical software using Simulink, Stateflow, and related MathWorks tools.
• Define software architecture, modeling standards, and workflows aligned with DO‑178C/DO‑331.
• Create, maintain and review software requirements, models and auto‑generated code.
• Ensure robustness and traceability through requirements‑based design and certification artifacts.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams including systems, safety, hardware, and flight test.
• Support CI pipelines with model checks, code generation, static analysis, and verification.
• Contribute to planning and execution of SOI audits and certification reviews.
• Create and maintain documentation for software requirements, architecture and design decisions.
• Support hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) and flight testing activities.
