Zip engineers own systems that move real money at scale. We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Engineer to lead cross‑domain initiatives, set technical direction, and mentor senior engineers while raising the bar for reliability and engineering excellence.

This remote-first role is US‑based with optional collaboration from our NYC office. You’ll shape architecture, embed AI into workflows, and drive platform patterns that enable safe, high‑volume payments across distributed services.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building and operating distributed backend systems.
• Experience in payments/fintech or settlement/reconciliation.
• Proven AI-driven engineering improvements across teams.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and raising standards across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and evolution of Zip’s real-time money movement and payments platform.
• Lead cross-team technical direction across distributed systems and embed AI into engineering workflows.
• Define and scale AI usage across engineering to improve developer productivity and system quality.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise engineering standards across teams.
