Job summary

Wunderlich-Malec's Electrical Testing group in Saco, ME seeks a Staff Engineer to lead protection and control design for utility, generation, and industrial power systems. You will collaborate with engineers, designers, field technicians, and commissioning personnel on projects from concept to startup.

The role covers relay settings, testing, and commissioning activities, with hands-on work in field verifications and SCADA interfaces. Travel up to 25% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Engineering Technology) from an accredited institution.
• Strong understanding of three-phase power systems and protection schemes.
• Experience leading project execution and client-facing technical efforts.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation for design packages.
• Experience with relay settings calculations and protection studies.

Responsibilities

• Engineering design packages including one-line and wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, and relay settings documentation.
• Perform relay coordination, short-circuit, load flow, arc flash and power quality studies.
• Evaluate specifications and drawings; provide redline markups on designs and configurations.
• Ensure compliance with standards (NERC, IEEE) and industry best practices.
• Support testing, commissioning, startup, and field verification activities.
• Communicate project risks, schedule concerns, and resource needs to leadership.
• Assist in proposal development, estimates, scopes of work, and budgets.
