The Farmer's Dog is seeking a Staff Engineer in New York City to lead architectural initiatives for scalable systems and smart product experiences. You will mentor engineers, partner with product on strategy, and shape our AI roadmap to responsibly unlock impact for customers and their dogs.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience leading architectural initiatives that improve reliability and scalability
• Ability to partner with product on business strategy and drive cross‑team impact
• Strong communication, mentoring, and an owner mindset

Responsibilities

• Guide the strategic evolution of core and new systems, establishing clear boundaries and enabling scalable architecture
• Influence product and business strategy through deep understanding of systems and products
• Foster alignment across pods and business partners, refining priorities and engineering strategy
• Collaborate with Staff Engineers, Engineering Managers, Product, Design and Data to shape the organization
• Evaluate new technologies thoughtfully, including AI, and ensure alignment with strategy and standards
• Lead the org's approach to AI, defining responsible usage and best practices for engineers
• Ensure cohesive experiences across all digital products for customers
• Develop deep data flow expertise to guide architectural decisions
• Mentor and elevate other engineers and model high engineering standards
