Job summary

Samsara is seeking a Senior/Staff Embedded Software Engineer to develop firmware for millions of devices across industrial customers. You will select hardware platforms, bring up new boards, and build efficient drivers and system layers.

Candidates should have extensive C, bare-metal/RTOS experience, and strong power-management know-how. You will collaborate with hardware, cloud, and QA teams to ensure robust data flows and reliable device operation, with a focus on scalable, high-quality

Qualifications

8+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems.
Fluency in C.
Bare-metal and RTOS experience (Zephyr, FreeRTOS, or equivalent).
Board bring-up of new hardware boards from first power-on.
Fluency in low-level interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC.
Strong bench testing and tool usage for hardware validation.
Staff-level scope: led hardware, firmware, cloud and quality from concept to shipped product.
Cross-layer judgment: trace decisions to customer impact across layers.
You document design thoughts, reviews and post-mortems for actionable outcomes.
You ship fast with automated testing and high-quality code.

Responsibilities

Shape the hardware, not just the code that runs on it.
Be the first person to make a new board do anything at all.
Own the layers everything else depends on, from drivers to firmware updates.
Chase every microamp by designing power-efficient firmware and hardware management.
Work with product, full-stack, mobile and quality engineers to ensure data fidelity and usefulness.
Set the bar for engineers: drive high standards, urgency, and iterative delivery.
