Job summary

Samsara is hiring a Senior/Staff Embedded Software Engineer to design hardware-aware firmware for millions of devices. You will select platforms, bring up new boards, and own drivers, bootloaders, and device management across hardware, firmware, cloud and QA.

This role emphasizes strong cross-team collaboration and rapid iteration in a remote-friendly environment. You will work with C on MCU platforms, RTOS, and gateway software, focusing on battery-powered sensors and gateways for scalable

Qualifications

8+ years firmware development on resource-constrained devices.
Fluency in C and ability to read a linker map, traces, and heap issues.
Experience with bare-metal or RTOS such as Zephyr or FreeRTOS.
Experience bringing up new boards and prototypes.
Proficient with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN and ADC interfaces.
Strong bench testing skills using oscilloscopes and analyzers.
Ability to drive cross-team consensus and document design decisions.
Proven track record shipping hardware, firmware, cloud and quality.

Responsibilities

Bend hardware decisions with electrical engineers, selecting SoC, flash/RAM, and sensor mix.
Bring up new platforms and prototypes from virgin silicon to customer-ready products.
Own peripheral drivers, secure bootloaders, firmware updates, and core management layers.
Design power and connectivity stacks to maximize device life in battery-powered sensors.
Collaborate with product, full-stack, mobile, and quality teams to ensure data integrity from firmware to dispatchers.
Set high engineering standards and help shape Samsara's processes as the team scales.
