Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Staff Electromechanical Engineer to lead the design and integration of avionics systems, from concept through production. You will design electromechanical solutions for avionics packaging, perform analyses, ensure DO-160/DO-254/DO-178C and MIL-STD compliance, and collaborate with electrical engineers in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Qualifications

• B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in mechanical and electrical equipment design for aerospace, including harness integration and mechanical component design.
• Expertise in CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar tools for 3D modeling, drawing creation, and system layout.
• Experience collaborating with electrical engineers to define PCB constraints, develop circuit cards, and manage all mechanical interfaces.
• Familiarity with the PCB layout process and advanced manufacturing methods.
• Familiarity with eCAD software such as Altium, Cadence, or Allegro and harness design software such as Capital or Zuken.
• Experience with finite element analysis, thermal analysis, and fatigue or lifecycle testing.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile development environment with evolving priorities.
• Ability to obtain an S//SAR-level security clearance is desired.

Responsibilities

• Design complex electromechanical solutions for avionics packaging, electrical interconnects, thermal management, and aircraft integration.
• Perform structural, preliminary thermal, and modal analyses for avionics to ensure survivability in harsh environments.
• Ensure avionics meet performance, safety, environmental, and EMI/EMC compliance standards, including DO-160, DO-254, DO-178C, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461.
• Own your design work from concept and design reviews through system validation, failure analysis, and flight-test readiness.
