Job summary

Pyramid Consulting, Inc. seeks a Staff Distribution Designer to develop distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground systems.

You will prepare design sketches, BOMs, cost estimates, and related deliverables while applying NESC and utility standards. The role requires a college degree in CAD design/drafting or related field with 7+ years of experience in Electric Utility/T&D/OH or UG Distribution Design.

Qualifications

• Must have a college degree in CAD design/drafting or related technology field with 7+ years supporting design/drafting for Electric Utility/T&D/OH or UG distribution projects.
• Experience with AutoCAD and familiarity with GIS and distribution systems.
• Bachelor degree in drafting technology or related field with 7+ years related experience OR Associate degree with 8+ years related experience OR 9 years progressive detailing and design experience.
• 7+ years of experience, preferably in utility or power industry.

Responsibilities

• Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
• Develop and prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other required deliverables.
• Perform various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
• Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
• Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers.
• Prepare and disseminate project communication regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning.
• Develop client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status.

Immediate need for a talented Staff Distribution Designer.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
• Develop and prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other required deliverables.
• Perform various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
• Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

• Must Have Skills: Must have a College Degree in CAD Design/Drafting or related technology field and min 7 years of experience supporting Design/Drafting for Electric Utility/T&D/OH or UG Distribution Design projects.
• Must have experience with AutoCAD and familiarity with GIS and Distribution Systems.
• Bachelor Degree in drafting technology or related field and 7 years related experience Required OR Associate Degree and 8 years related experience Required OR 9 years progressive detailing and design experience.
• 7+ years of experience, preferably in utility or power industry.
• Advanced understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables.
• Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
• Proficiency in distribution design software and GIS to aid in design.
• Strong knowledge of electric distribution infrastructure and construction techniques.
• Strong knowledge regarding easements, right-of-way, and permitting for distribution projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
