Job summary

Pyramid Consulting, Inc. has an immediate opening in Kansas City, MO for a Staff Distribution Designer on a 12+ months contract, onsite. The role requires a strong CAD/design background with 7+ years in electric utility distribution design and heavy AutoCAD/GIS experience.

You will develop distribution packages, prepare BOMs, perform critical calculations, and communicate project status and results to clients and managers.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects.
• Create design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and deliverables.
• Perform distribution calculations: cable pulling, voltage drop, pole loading.
• Apply NESC and utility standards, guides, specs, procedures.
• Compile project data and prepare communications on vegetation, ROW, outages.
• Develop client presentations, reports, and visualizations of results.

Job description

Immediate need for a talented Staff Distribution Designer. This is a 12+months contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Kansas City, MO (Onsite).

Pay Range: $47 - $55/hour. Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
• Develop and prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other required deliverables.
• Perform various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
• Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
• Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers.
• Prepare and disseminate project communication regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning.
• Develop client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

• Must Have Skills: Must have a College Degree in CAD Design/Drafting or related technology field and min 7 years of experience supporting Design/Drafting for Electric Utility/T&D/OH or UG Distribution Design projects.
• Must have experience with AutoCAD and familiarity with GIS and Distribution Systems.
• Bachelor Degree in drafting technology or related field and 7 years related experience Required OR Associate Degree and 8 years related experience Required OR 9 years progressive detailing and design experience.
• 7+ years of experience, preferably in utility or power industry.
• Advanced understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables.
• Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
• Proficiency in distribution design software and GIS to aid in design.
• DDS, ArcFM, AUD, BOUD, etc.
• Strong knowledge of electric distribution infrastructure and construction techniques.
• Strong knowledge regarding easements, right-of-way, and permitting for distribution projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
