Job summary

Pyramid Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer for a 12+ month contract located in Albuquerque, NM / Phoenix, AZ onsite.

You will lead design teams on utility distribution projects, ensure compliance with NESC and standards, and deliver high-quality engineering solutions for both overhead and underground systems. The role requires a strong background in voltage package designs, project coordination, and effective communication with clients and field teams.

Qualifications

• Must have ABET-accredited engineering degree and at least 7 years of distribution experience.
• Experience leading 2.4kV–34.5kV overhead and underground distribution projects.
• PE/FE license preferred; EPC project experience is a plus.
• Bachelor or Master degree with EPC experience; FE/PE is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead design teams for new, altered, and redeveloped distribution projects.
• Guide design and construction processes within budget and client needs.
• Develop voltage package designs for overhead and underground systems.
• Review calculations: cable pulling, voltage drop, pole loading.
• Ensure designs comply with NESC and utility standards.
• Coordinate project schedule, scope, budget, and resources.
• Mentor engineers and perform QA/QC reviews on deliverables.

Job description

Immediate need for a talented Senior Distribution Engineer. This is a 12+months contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Albuquerque, NM / Phoenix, AZ (Onsite).

Key Responsibilities:

• The Senior Distribution Engineer will lead design project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on various 2.4kV to 34.5kV overhead and underground utility distribution projects.
• You will also lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical distribution plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
• Lead design of distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
• Review various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
• Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
• Participate in the development of project schedule, scope, budget, resource forecasting, and construction planning.
• Responsible for effective management of change orders.
• Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects to find non-standard design solutions.
• Oversee or perform Quality Control reviews of project deliverables.
• Oversee or perform construction administration activities.
• Lead field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private electric utility systems.
• Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
• Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
• Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
• Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
• Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction by mentoring less experienced engineers and designers.
• Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
• Responsible for effective communication regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning.
• Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies and standards.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

• Must Have Skills: Must have Bachelor’s Degree from ABET Accredited and min 7 years of relevant engineering is required.
• Must have experience in leading 2.4kV–34.5kV overhead and underground utility distribution projects.
• Candidate should have experience in collaborating with distribution design teams, perform/review electrical and structural calculations, and ensure designs comply with NESC and utility standards.
• PE/FE License is preferred.
• Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and min 7 years of distribution engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred). OR
• Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related Engineering Technology degree from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and min 7 years of distribution engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred) OR
• Master Degree in Engineering and min 6 years of distribution engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred) is Required..
• Expert knowledge of electrical distribution power flow.
• Strong knowledge of overhead and underground construction methods and distribution system equipment.
• Experience in distribution design software and GIS to aid in design.
• Expert knowledge regarding easements, right-of-way, and permitting for distribution projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with leading the design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
• Ability to lead the execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
• Ability to travel.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License (Preferred).
