Job summary

Pyramid Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Staff Distribution Engineer for a 12+ month contract in Albuquerque, NM (onsite) with potential long-term opportunities.

The role focuses on designing 2.4kV–34.5kV distribution systems, preparing packages, calculations, and BOMs, while applying NESC standards and coordinating with project teams. The candidate will perform field inspections, develop client-facing materials, and ensure project deliverables meet budget and schedule requirements.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited degree with minimum 3 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience designing 2.4kV–34.5kV distribution systems.
  • Bachelor's degree from ABET-accredited program with 3+ years of experience, consulting preferred.
  • Or Bachelor's in Engineering/related field with FE exam and 3+ years of experience (consulting preferred).
  • Or Master’s in Engineering with at least 2 years of relevant experience (consulting preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution power flow.
  • Proficiency in distribution design software and GIS.
  • Knowledge of easements, right-of-way, and permitting for distribution projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work analytically in quantitative problem-solving environments.
  • Strong attention to detail, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving.
  • EIT certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects.
  • Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other deliverables.
  • Perform distribution calculations including voltage drop and pole loading.
  • Apply knowledge of NESC standards and utility guidelines.
  • Research and compile project-related data for managers.
  • Conduct field inspections on overhead and underground facilities.

Job description

Immediate need for a talented Staff Distribution Engineer. This is a 12+ Months Contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Albuquerque, NM 87109 OR Phoenix, AZ 85004 (Onsite).

Pay Range: $50 - $54/hour. Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Job Overview:-The Staff Distribution Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on various 2.4kV to 34.5kV overhead and underground utility distribution projects.
  • You will also work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical distribution plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
  • Duties: Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
  • Develop and prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other required deliverables.
  • Perform various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
  • Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers.
  • Perform field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private utility systems.
  • Prepare and disseminate project communication regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning.
  • Develop client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies and standards.
Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
  • Must Have Skills: Must have Bachelor’s Degree from ABET Accredited and min 3 years of relevant engineering is required.
  • Must have experience in designing 2.4kV–34.5kV overhead and underground utility distribution systems.
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and min 3 years of relevant engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • OR
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related Engineering Technology degree from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and min 3 years of relevant engineering experience (consulting preferred)
  • OR
  • Master Degree in Engineering and min 2 years of relevant engineering experience (consulting preferred) is Required.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution power flow.
  • Proficiency in distribution design software and GIS to aid in design.
  • Strong knowledge regarding easements, right-of-way, and permitting for distribution projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification (Preferred).
