Job summary

Slate is seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer to define the technical direction for our platform, spanning AWS, EKS and self-managed clusters. You will build and run large portions of the infrastructure, lead through architecture, and participate in on-call rotation across Digital, Data Engineering, IT, Manufacturing Systems and Security.

You will design a hybrid Kubernetes platform, governance models, observability, and secure, cost-aware operations.

Qualifications

10+ years in DevOps, site reliability or platform engineering with production responsibility.
AWS multi-account governance, VPCs, DNS, IAM, and hybrid connectivity.
Kubernetes in production across EKS and self-managed clusters.
Infrastructure as code using AWS CDK; Python is core to platform code.
CI/CD pipelines and GitOps tooling (ArgoCD/Flux).
Reliability engineering: SLOs, incident response and on-call practices.
Hybrid networking: cloud and on-premises connectivity and security.
Technical leadership without direct reports; strong design docs.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering.

Responsibilities

Architect the hybrid Kubernetes platform across cloud and on-prem environments.
Define and evolve AWS multi-account governance and networking guardrails.
Build reliability practices: on-call, SLOs, postmortems, observability.
Provide self-service tooling: CI/CD templates, reusable infra libraries, deployment patterns.
Lead design reviews and mentor engineers across teams.
