Qualifications

• Preferred: 2+ years of nursing; 1 year in long-term care.
• Preferred: 1 year infection control experience.
• Experience supervising.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate training needs and provide recommendations to ED and DNS.
• Plan and schedule annual education programs; maintain records.
• Maintain education profiles and attendance records for staff.
• Teach safety policies and infection control procedures.
• Obtain continuing education in geriatric care; identify issues.
• Contribute to QA/QI meetings with meaningful information.
• Maintain organized records for prompt retrieval.

Job Summary:

Shelton Health and Rehabilitation Center is currently accepting applications for an experienced Staff Development Coordinator/Infection Prevention Nurse to administer, plan, develop, evaluate, coordinate and educate any and all programs for the facility's staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Staff Development Coordinator

• Evaluates resident and staff training needs, and provides the Executive Director (ED) and DNS with comprehensive recommendations concerning the educational/training needs of nursing staff.
• Interprets and implements established Center policies, processes, and regulations for nursing staff.
• Plans and provides the ED and DNS with an annual schedule of planned education programs.
• Maintains current education records of classes/in-services conducted, attendance, and clinical performance of each nursing attendee, as well as attendance records of other employees.
• Maintains an education profile for each nursing employee listing each class attended, date, time period, and evaluation of performance.
• Observes and teaches the Center safety policies and processes to nursing staff.
• Assumes responsibility for obtaining continuing education relating to the care of the geriatric resident and nursing education.
• Demonstrates consistent ability to identify problems, report in an objective manner, and take appropriate corrective action.

Infection Prevention Nurse

• Interprets and implements established facility policies, procedures and regulations
• Observes and teaches the facility infection control policies and procedures
• Demonstrates consistent ability to identify issues
• Participates in and contributes meaningful information in all meetings relating to resident care and QA/QI in the facility.
• Maintains all records and data in a neat, organized manner for prompt retrieval

EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Required: Current LPN or RN Licensure in the state of employment.
• Required: One year experience and demonstrated competence in planning, implementing and directing educational programs for adults in the nursing field.
• Preferred: Two years' experience in nursing; one year in long-term care.
• Preferred: One-year experience with infection control
• Experience supervising
