Job summary

PacBio seeks a Staff Engineer in Software (Deployment) to lead cross‑functional efforts for cloud deployment, image architecture, and automated pipelines across sequencing appliances and customer data centers.

You will own the deployment models, promote reproducible builds, and drive secure, auditable software releases with strong collaboration with Quality, IT, and Manufacturing teams. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience in systems, platform, release, or deployment engineering; master’s degree +8+ years experience.
• Experience delivering Linux-based systems on appliance or hardware into customer environments.
• Fluency in Python and shell for production automation.
• Deep Linux knowledge: boot chain, systemd, filesystems, kernel/driver integration.
• Experience designing and operating automated image build pipelines.
• Experience delivering software under change control in regulated settings.
• Hands-on ownership of CI/CD systems at scale, including containerized builds and IaC.
• Production experience deploying cloud services on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Track record setting technical direction across teams; ability to persuade beyond authority.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Cloud deployment of core data analysis and pipeline services.
• Build and release pipelines consolidation and containerization of builds.
• Own image architecture and hardware integration across node roles and variants.
• Infrastructure as code for instruments, build infra, and lab systems.
• Establish artifact signing, secure boot, and SBOM generation.
• Coordinate with Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, IT, and Field Service for auditable deployments.
• Provide technical leadership, review designs and code, mentor engineers across teams.
