Job summary

PacBio is seeking a Staff Deployment Engineer to design, deploy, and evolve compute platforms embedded in sequencing appliances, customer data centers, and the cloud. You will set technical direction for multi-year architectures and deliver auditable, repeatable builds for CLIA-regulated customers.

You will lead cloud deployment, CI/CD consolidation, and image architecture across hardware variants, ensuring secure, scalable, and reproducible deployments for PacBio instruments.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience in systems, platform, release, or deployment engineering (or a Master’s degree with 8+ years in those areas).
• Experience delivering Linux-based systems on appliance or hardware into customer environments.
• Fluency in Python and shell scripting for production automation.
• Deep hands-on Linux systems expertise including boot chain, systemd, filesystems, partitioning, packaging, and driver integration.

Responsibilities

• Cloud deployment: bring data analysis pipelines to the cloud with secure, reliable, on-demand compute.
• Build and release pipelines: consolidate CI/CD into a single platform with containerized builds.
• Image architecture and hardware integration: own image architecture and driver integration across variants.
• Infrastructure as code: replace bespoke scripting with declarative configuration for instruments and build infra.
• Supply-chain integrity and security: establish artifact signing, verified boot, SBOM generation, and patch cadence.
• Cross-functional and regulatory execution: partner with Quality/Regulatory/Manufacturing to ensure auditable, traceable deployments.
• Technical leadership: set standards, review designs, mentor engineers, and de-risk systems.
