Job summary

Beacon Biosignals is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Datastore design and scale backend data infrastructure. You will own PostgreSQL schemas, GraphQL APIs, and Kafka-based pipelines while collaborating with cross-functional teams on new data workflows.

You should bring 7+ years in backend data platforms, strong PostgreSQL and SQL tuning skills, and experience with Kubernetes, IaC, and mentoring. This is a remote US-based role with strong async work practices.

Qualifications

• 7+ years backend development experience in data platforms.
• Strong SQL skills with PostgreSQL and query tuning.
• Experience with Kafka or similar streaming systems.
• Proficiency in Python; Julia experience is a plus.
• Experience with GraphQL APIs and data modeling.
• Kubernetes and IaC (Terraform/Helm) experience.
• Mentoring engineers and driving best practices.
• Excellent async, remote-friendly communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead design across the Datastore platform and architecture decisions.
• Design end-to-end event pipelines with producers and consumers.
• Collaborate across teams to deliver APIs, models, and integrations.
• Mentor engineers and improve team practices, tooling, and docs.
• Draft RFCs for complex feature discovery and decision alignment.
• Plan work with trade-offs between speed, generalizability, and debt.
• Contribute to documentation, tooling, and dashboards.
