Job summary

Beacon Biosignals, a leader in brain data platforms, seeks a Software Engineer IV to design and scale the Datastore, delivering robust data models, event pipelines, and a GraphQL API. You will own complex systems, collaborate across teams, and drive data integrity and maintainability in a remote-friendly, hybrid environment.

You’ll work on SQL-rich data infrastructures, PostgreSQL performance, and Kafka-driven pipelines while mentoring others and shaping the platform roadmap for clinical studies

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend development experience, including 3+ years on data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric apps.
• Strong proficiency in SQL with PostgreSQL; able to write and tune complex queries and reason about schema design and indexes.
• Hands-on experience with data streaming/event processing using Kafka or equivalents.
• Proficiency in Python or Julia; Julia is a core language for the Datastore team.
• Experience deploying/operating containerized services with Kubernetes and IaC tools (Terraform/Helm).
• Track record mentoring engineers and improving team practices, tooling, documentation, and test coverage.
• Collaborative mindset; thrives in cross-disciplinary, asynchronous, remote-friendly environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; self-directed in hybrid/remote settings.
• Interest in using LLM-assisted coding tools with good guardrails.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architecture for complex Datastore projects and systems.
• Translate stakeholder requirements into scalable integrations, services, and data workflows.
• Debug and profile cross-system issues, improving structure, tests, and tooling.
• Maintain high data integrity and design sound, maintainable data platforms across lifecycles.
• Draft RFCs to guide feature discovery and alignment across teams.
• Plan work and contribute to team roadmaps, balancing speed, generalizability and debt.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices, documentation, and code quality.
