Job summary

Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Software Engineer IV to lead the design of backend data infrastructure within the Datastore platform. You will own data models, event pipelines, and the GraphQL API, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to unlock new workflows and scalable data delivery.

You will mentor engineers, drive RFCs, and balance speed with generalizability while maintaining data integrity and system maintainability. The role supports remote work anywhere in the U.S.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend development experience, incl. 3+ years in data platforms/backend infra.
• Proficient in data modeling, distributed systems, API design, or database engineering.
• Strong SQL proficiency with PostgreSQL; design/indexes/query plans.
• Experience with data streaming/event processing (Kafka or equivalents).
• Proficiency in Julia or Python; willingness to learn Julia.

Responsibilities

• Lead design across the Datastore platform and APIs.
• Collaborate with product, science and engineering teams to enable new workflows.
• Architect complex systems; own data pipelines and dataset delivery to warehouse.
• Draft RFCs; guide feature discovery and technical design phases.
• Mentor engineers and improve team practices, tooling, and docs.
