General Motors seeks a Staff Data Scientist to lead AI/ML and data science products across engineering workflows, delivering measurable productivity gains. You will translate complex problems into scalable, production-grade AI solutions and mentor a growing scientist community.

You’ll influence stakeholders by communicating tradeoffs and opportunities, shaping method quality, and driving enterprise impact within a hybrid GM IT environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years working with and 3+ years leading advanced analytics, AI/ML and/or operations research initiatives.
• Demonstrated thought leadership in innovative methodologies to solve business problems.
• Deep expertise across AI/ML and analytics domains (LLMs, forecasting, deep learning, OR, prescriptive & predictive methods).
• Proficiency in Python and cloud-based data science platforms; SQL proficiency; Databricks preferred.
• Experience with generative AI tools and platforms (Cursor, GitHub, Microsoft Copilot, Glean, Databricks Genie).
• Ability to frame ambiguous high-value problems into tractable analytical strategies and measurable outcomes.
• Strong presentation and communication skills.
• MS degree in related field; PhD is a plus and may substitute for degree.

• Shape scientific direction and ensure quality and robustness of AI products.
• Grow scientist capabilities through exploration, mentorship, and reusable frameworks.
• Drive results on time and within budget while managing risks and measurable impact.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with data engineering, delivery, software teams, and other units.
• Translate technical tradeoffs and risks into clear business decisions.
