Cribl, a B2B SAAS data observability company, seeks a Staff Data Engineer to lead Cribl’s Data Engineering team. You will shape architecture for analytics and operational decision‑making across the company, partnering with analysts, SREs, IT, and business teams.

You will own the data stack, drive dbt and warehouse optimization, and mentor engineers while enabling AI/agentic workflows at scale in a remote‑first environment.

Qualifications

• Deep Snowflake expertise for data modeling and performance.
• Proven technical leader with staff-level experience.
• Strong Python and SQL fundamentals.
• Experience with self-hosted orchestration (Prefect preferred).
• Experience with AWS and IaC patterns.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for the Data Engineering team.
• Own architecture and design for core data systems.
• Partner with stakeholders across data, SRE, IT, and business.
• Clarify requirements, validate outputs, and communicate risks, tradeoffs, and timelines.
• Own and operate self-hosted orchestration platform.
• Run and evolve self-managed Prefect deployment and its build/worker system.
• Own the operational hygiene, upgrade path, and cost/footprint tradeoffs of running orchestration on a hybrid, self-hosted model.
• Own Cribl’s Snowflake environment.
• Serve as the subject-matter expert on data modeling, performance, and cost optimization.
• Build, operate, and monitor the core data tech stack with logging, alerting, and observability.
• Advance the modern data stack and dbt practice; manage warehouse cost/performance at scale.
• Develop cloud-native services and infrastructure on AWS and IaC.
• Advance infrastructure-as-code practice with reusable modules and clean deployment patterns.
• Partner with the Data Engineering manager to set technical direction and roadmaps.
• Mentor and grow data engineers through code review and coaching.
• Support data science and AI initiatives with model-ready datasets.
