Job summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a Staff Court Interpreter to serve within the Foreign Language Services Division of the Supreme Court of Virginia. The interpreter provides courtroom interpretation and supports language access services across courts, vendors, and contractors.

The role involves coordination of interpreter resources, invoice reviews, and participation in statewide language access initiatives, with opportunities for career progression as certification is achieved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience.
• Experience providing consecutive and simultaneous interpretation and sight translation.
• Interpreting experience in legal, judicial, governmental, medical, or similar settings.
• Proficiency in English and in at least one non-English language.
• Ability to use technology systems, databases, scheduling platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate, impartial interpretation using simultaneous and consecutive modes; sight translation as needed.
• Interpret in court proceedings, hearings, trials and jury trials.
• Provide video remote and telephonic interpretation as assigned.
• Maintain compliance with Code of Professional Responsibility for Court Interpreters and FLServices policies.
• Coordinate language access requests and interpreter services for courts and programs.
