Job summary

The Supreme Court of Virginia's Foreign Language Services Division is seeking a Staff Court Interpreter to provide courtroom interpretation and language access support across statewide initiatives. The role may be certification-eligible or certified, with progression toward full Virginia certification.

Responsibilities include interpreting in hearings, coordinating language access services, reviewing invoices, maintaining systems, and supporting translator projects while upholding ethics,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience providing consecutive and simultaneous interpretation and sight translation.
• Experience in legal, judicial, governmental, or related settings.
• Proficiency in English and at least one non-English language.
• Ability to use scheduling platforms and Microsoft Office tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and impartial interpretation in court proceedings (simultaneous, consecutive, sight translation).
• Coordinate language access requests and interpreter services for courts and programs.
• Review interpreter invoices for accuracy and compliance with payment requirements.
• Support translation projects and statewide language access initiatives.
• Mentor or support interpreters and participate in training initiatives.
