Job summary

Headway is building a new mental healthcare system at scale, and Infrastructure Engineering is the backbone of that effort. You will own the cloud platform, isolate blast radius, and enable self-serve infrastructure so engineers can move fast without risking stability.

As a Staff-level leader, you will steer compute, networking, and deployment, influence across teams, and raise the bar for reliability. The role demands deep AWS expertise, Terraform, and hands-on capacity planning across ECS/EKS.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in platform, infrastructure, or SRE roles at companies with significant production traffic.
• Deep AWS expertise and ownership of compute and networking at scale (ECS, EKS, RDS, networking, IAM)
• Strong infrastructure-as-code experience, particularly Terraform, including self-serve platforms for other teams
• Hands-on autoscaling and capacity engineering, and container orchestration with ECS and/or EKS
• Track record making deploys safe and self-serve for other teams, not just your own
• Staff-level influence: drive decisions across team boundaries and raise the infra bar org-wide

Responsibilities

• Deployment architecture and blast-radius containment to prevent cross-service failures.
• Container footprint and networking for ECS/EKS at scale.
• Capacity and scaling for spiky workloads with data-driven decisions.
• Self-serve infrastructure platform with Terraform and guardrails for engineering teams.
• Cloud cost attribution and controls across AWS, Datadog, and LLM spend.
• Python runtime and dependency health management for the monolith and services.
