Job summary

Johnson & Johnson MedTech is seeking a Staff Clinical Engineer to drive early-stage ideas into clinically relevant orthopedic devices. The role combines clinical expertise with engineering, focusing on safety, performance, and meaningful patient outcomes in a fast-paced innovation environment.

Based in Boston or Raynham, MA, the position requires 7+ years in medical device R&D, strong communication, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Office presence is expected three days per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering; Master’s or PhD preferred.
• 7+ years in medical device R&D with digital technology experience in the operating room.
• Experience with surgical robotics and biomechanics.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical reasoning, and ability to lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Contribute clinical and technical expertise to ideation and early-stage evaluation of novel design concepts.
• Support feasibility assessment and prototype development aligned with clinical needs and regulatory pathways.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define the patient journey and product maps.
• Lead clinical hazard analyses and risk mapping to define project scope and timelines.
• Provide on-site support during initial product commercialization and product issue resolution.
