Job summary

Johnson & Johnson’s Orthopaedics team seeks a Staff Clinical Engineer to drive early-stage ideas into clinically relevant, safe devices. Based in Boston, MA or Raynham, MA, you will partner with product development and clinicians to accelerate concepts to clinical application, delivering patient benefits and market leadership.

You will provide clinical insight across design validation, risk assessment, and regulatory considerations while collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, Robotics Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Master’s or PhD preferred with focus on medical device development or related fields.
• 7+ years in medical device R&D with digital technology in OR and early-stage incubation.

Responsibilities

• Contribute clinical and technical expertise to ideation and early-stage evaluation of novel designs.
• Support feasibility assessment and prototype development aligned with clinical needs and regulatory pathways.
• Prepare and deliver prototype demonstrations for stakeholders and partners.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define patient journeys and product maps.
• Lead clinical hazard analyses and risk maps to inform scope and timelines.
• Stay informed on surgical robotics trends and navigated devices.
