Join to apply for the Staff Civil/Geotechnical Engineer role at GEI Consultants, Inc.

GEI’s Mid-Atlantic area offices (Washington DC, Rockville MD, and Charlottesville VA) are seeking an entry-level Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to support field and engineering design efforts under the supervision of senior staff. Responsibilities include coordinating geotechnical and environmental soil borings, installing wells and instrumentation, collecting samples, and overseeing construction documentation. Design support involves preparing documents for foundations, ground improvement, instrumentation, and environmental work. Projects encompass private developments, public infrastructure, maritime, and others, involving shallow and deep foundations, ground improvement, earth retention, and geotechnical instrumentation.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

• Supporting site investigations and assessments, including soil borings, testing, environmental sampling, and subcontractor oversight
• Coordinating and interpreting lab tests
• Preparing engineering analyses, calculations, memos, reports, and specifications
• Observing and documenting field and construction activities
• Designing and modifying drawings using AutoCAD

Minimum Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering or related field with a geotechnical focus
• 0-3 years of experience in civil/geotechnical/environmental engineering and consulting
• Proficiency with geotechnical design software, Civil 3D, GIS
• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Willingness to travel and perform field tasks in various conditions
• Valid U.S. driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

• MS in Geotechnical Engineering
• Construction observation/management experience
• Programming skills and OSHA/HAZWOPER training
