Job summary

Lightship is seeking a Staff Chassis Systems Design Engineer in Colorado to own chassis structures and mechanical systems from concept through production release. You will drive design, analysis, and documentation for a range of chassis components, lead verification activities, and coordinate with suppliers to ensure robust integration.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; MS preferred.
• 8+ years of mechanical or structural design experience in automotive or similar.
• Experience taking concepts to production release.
• Strong fundamentals: loads, stress, fatigue, joints, suspension, braking.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and drawing creation; CATIA/3DEXPERIENCE a plus.
• GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFMEA/PFMEA knowledge.
• Experience with chassis manufacturing processes and supplier collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design vehicle chassis systems and components from concept to production.
• Translate requirements into detailed designs meeting strength, stiffness, durability, mass, packaging, cost and manufacturability targets.
• Define load cases, load paths, and perform engineering calculations.
• Create interfaces, tolerances, and packaging requirements; apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Produce and maintain production-quality CAD drawings and specs.
• Select materials and manufacturing processes based on requirements and volume.
• Lead or support design reviews, CAE, DFMEA/PFMEA, and tolerance analysis.
• Develop DV/PV plans and evaluate test results for design improvements.
• Support prototype builds and resolve fit, function, packaging, and manufacturing issues.
• Collaborate with powertrain, suspension, body, CAE, and supplier teams for vehicle integration.
